Destination Gettysburg
 September 2009

From the Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau

Dear Visitor ,

It seems just yesterday that the summer was beginning, then we were preparing for the Battle Anniversary and the annual reenactment. As I look out today across historic Gettysburg, the weather is cooling and we are preparing for the Annual Wine Festival, harvest season and the Apple Harvest Festival. Before we know it, we will be talking about Dedication Day and the Remembrance Day Parade. This is one of my favorite times of year to walk the battlefields and remember, to stroll the streets filled with shops and restaurants, and to explore the countryside brimming with apples ready to be picked. Hope to see you soon!

It's Wine Time!
This Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 12th & 13th, head to Gettysburg for the 5th Annual Gettysburg Wine & Music Festival. Held at Gateway Gettysburg at the intersection of Route 15 and 30, the festival is rain or shine. The event, hosted by the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Bobby Rahal Lexus, is sure to be a weekend of fine wine, great music and beautiful weather. To learn more, visit www.gettysburgwine.com.

After the festival, plan to visit our local wineries in their tasting rooms to see how wine is made. The area's newest winery is Reid's Orchard & Winery, 2135 Buchanan Valley Road in Orrtanna. Reid's offers wines from their own IPM grown grapes, hard cider and fruit wines from their own orchard's fruits. Next stop is yet another new winery to the area, Hauser Estate Winery, 410 Cashtown Road in Biglerville, which opened last summer. You decide what you like more, the wine or the stunning views. Catch a "Hauser After Hours" September 18 & 25 and again in October; be sure to check out the calendar. Don't miss the areas oldest winery, Adams County Winery, located at 251 Peach Tree Road in Orrtanna. Tours are available, as well as a variety of special events throughout the year. You can also visit their wine shop at 25 Chambersburg Street in downtown Gettysburg.

Visitors to the area will also discover the new Gettysburg Wine & Fruit Trail that includes wineries, farm markets, orchards, nurseries, and more. There is so much to discover, bring your special someone, your girlfriends, or your Mom and taste the fruits of Adams County!
