Saturday, May 04, 2013 to Sunday, May 05, 2013
Educational Event
“Walking Fields of Glory” is based on the Boy Scout Heritage trail (booklet included in the registration fee) with some modifications. Your guide will lead you on a two day vigorous hike of the battlefield while pausing at a few places along the way to tell you brief stories of the battlefield and the men who fought there, along with some history of the monuments you will pass.
This very strenuous hike will include hills, creeks and rocky terrain. On Saturday, you will hike the ten-mile Billy Yank trail which takes approximately seven hours to complete covering areas such as Devils Den and Culp’s Hill. On Sunday, you will finish with the five-mile Johnny Reb trail, which takes approximately four hours to complete. On both days the tour will start at 9:00am at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. Tour ends at the Museum and Visitor Center at 4:00pm on Saturday and at 1:00pm on Sunday.
Bring your backpacks, hiking shoes and walking sticks. This tour will proceed rain or shine.
Included in your registration fee of $90 for members and $115 for non-members are a morning and afternoon water/snack break and box lunch on Saturday, a water/snack break on Sunday and a copy of the Boy Scout Heritage Trail booklet.
