Covering the 150th

Because of the high volume of requests expected for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg and the Gettysburg Address in 2012 and 2013, the Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau is limited to the amount of assistance it is able to provide to journalists in terms of lodging, meals and passes into events.

We strongly encourage journalists to consider visiting Gettysburg in 2012, or during the spring, fall and winter seasons, when media requests will be fewer.

Journalists looking to visit during the 150th Anniversary Commemoration should expect to cover the cost of their transportation to and from Gettysburg, as well as the majority of meals while visiting. Lodging and other assistance will be offered to credentialed media on assignment first, and all others as available. The CVB reserves the right to reject assistance to any and all media, and black-out periods can occur that may necessitate a press rate, particularly at hotels.

Members of the media looking to visit Gettysburg and receive assistance of any kind from the Gettysburg CVB in 2013 must provide 30 days notice, along with two clips of their work in the past 12 months. For journalists working with websites or blogs, assistance will only be given to those who can provide documentation on traffic and audience.

Journalists looking for media passes at the Annual Gettysburg Re-enactment must work directly with the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee by calling (717) 335-1525 or by email at [email protected]. The Gettysburg CVB is unable to provide media passes into the re-enactment.

Media - other than those covering breaking news to air immediately - interested in shooting film or video at Gettysburg National Military Park and Soldiers' National Cemetery must file a film permit, along with a $50 non-refundable fee. Depending on the complexity of the shoot, a location fee may also be assessed. For more information on the Gettysburg National Military Park's film permit, contact Grace Reese at (717) 334-1124, ext. 3161, or by email at [email protected]. A film permit may be downloaded at the Gettysburg National Military Park's Website. Permits must be filed at least two weeks prior to the scheduled shoot.

The Gettysburg CVB will provide a VIP Pass, which will allow the media entry into museums, tours and other attractions. Unless otherwise negotiated, the VIP Pass will only be issued to credential journalists, not necessarily to guests of those journalists. Likewise, passes - and other assistance - will only be provided to credentialed photographers on staff.

We are happy to provide story ideas, high-resolution photography and customized itineraries to all journalists.
