The Gettysburg Foundation will present the sixth annual Remembrance Illumination Saturday, Nov. 22, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery at Gettysburg. More than 3,500 luminary candles will be lit on the graves of Civil War soldiers. The event is free and open to the public.
“The Gettysburg Foundation is committed to enhancing preservation and understanding of the heritage and lasting significance of Gettysburg,” said Robert C. Wilburn, president of the Foundation. “We are honored to present this event as a testament to those who sacrificed so much and have such an important place in American history.”
Visitors will be able to enter the National Cemetery through both of its entrances – Baltimore Street and Taneytown Road. In keeping with the solemnity of the event, the Foundation asks that flash photography be kept to a minimum. Parking is available in the Soldiers’ National Cemetery parking lot on Taneytown Road. Visitors should note that this event will be canceled in the event of severely inclement weather – such as heavy rain or high winds.
