Sisters of Charity plan pilgrimage journey in 2009

In 2009, the Sisters of Charity throughout the United States will commemorate 200 years of history, charity, and dedication started by a small band of young women under the inspiration of Elizabeth Ann Seton. To honor and celebrate the life of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton and her everlasting legacy, the Daughters of Charity Emmitsburg Province have planned special Liturgies, retreats, a weekend celebration, and two pilgrimages from Baltimore. Many of the planned events will take place at the National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, 333 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md., and in Baltimore. The one-day pilgrimage journeys are planned to take place on Friday, July 31, and on Saturday, Aug. 1. You may register for either pilgrimage journey, which will begin at 9 a.m. with a prayer service at the Mother Seton House, 600 N. Paca St., Baltimore. En route, there will be a showing of the video, �Baltimore Blessed,� readings of Elizabeth Ann Seton, and quiet time for reflection. The bus will stop at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in Emmitsburg and at The National Shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. The bus will return to Paca Street by 3:30 p.m. For ease of parking, the bus can be boarded at 8:30 a.m. at Seton Keough High School, 1201 Caton Avenue, Baltimore. It can also be boarded at the Mother Seton House, but parking there is limited. The total cost per person is $35 and includes the bus fare and a box lunch, which will be provided at the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Reservations should be made by April 1. Aug. 1: Concurrent informational sessions held throughout the day at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. and are open to the public. Aug. 2: Blessing of the Seton Legacy Garden at 10 a.m.; live re-enactment to include an historic Conestoga Wagon pulled by six horses to accompany Mother Seton and walkers to the Seton Shrine. The procession will leave the National Shrine of Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes at 9 a.m. South Seton Avenue will be closed for the procession arriving at the Seton Shrine campus at approximately 11 a.m.
