Several years ago a show reviewer described the Historic East Berlin Antique Show as the way shows used to be..friendly dealers, reasonable prices, genuine early antiques.

This is a great compliment to the work hard of the East Berlin Historical Preservation Society to maintain the shows fine reputation. The emphasis is on items from the 1700s through the mid 1800s. No crafts or reproductions are permitted.

Dealers from seven states set up booths featuring folk art, samplers, early iron, painted country furniture and smalls, textiles, stoneware, paintings, fraktur, out-of-print books on antiques, quilts, Staffordshire and much more.

The show always starts with a high energy Early Buying Preview in the evening, with a large crowd of collectors and dealers from many states forming a long line outside the building prior to the opening.

This event is a fundraiser for the East Berlin Historical Preservation Society, which has taken on the care of historic structures in the area as they have become at risk or need maintenance:

Swigarts Mill (in York County) 1794.

        Red Mens Hall (1840)

Log House (1832) Dismantled, moved and reassembled by volunteers

Liberty No. 1 Engine House (1892)

        Church Schoolhouse (18th century)

Karen Shaeffer, member volunteer, directs the societys ongoing education program for school children in three of these buildings, offering hands-on activities such as weaving, hearth cooking and a typical one-room school day.

Admission to the event is $5, but the cost to attend the Early Buying Preview is $12. The show is open Friday, May 28, from 5 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 29, from 1 to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, May 30, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
