ACTA launches trolley system in Historic Gettysburg

In an unprecedented coordination between local, state, and federal agencies, Adams County Transit Authority is proud to announce that Freedom Transit has begun fixed-route bus service for Gettysburg.

As gas prices continue to rise, parking is at a premium and the advent of the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War approaches, Freedom Transit has launched a low-cost, green alternative for local transportation. Three historic trolleys will be available to transport people to a multitude of dining, shopping, and tourist destinations such as the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center, the newly restored David Wills House, and the Lincoln Train Station. Three vans will provide transportation to social services, senior housing and retail destinations.

�Freedom Transit is going to be a wonderful, low-cost, environmentally friendly option for park visitors, allowing us to improve access between the battlefield and the town of Gettysburg,� said Superintendent John A. Latschar of Gettysburg National Military Park. �Battlefield visitors cannot fully understand the story of Gettysburg without a visit into town.�

Designed to relieve congestion, and improve air quality, Freedom Transit will offer three bus routes with 32 unique bus stops throughout the borough and adjoining townships.
