This Saturday, the National Apple Harvest Festival will begin its first of two weekends, marking 45 years celebrating Adams County’s rich agricultural heritage.
Each year, the festival attracts tens of thousands of visitors from the entire Mid-Atlantic Region. Held at the South Mountain Fairgrounds, north of Arendtsville, Pa., the event brings visitors right out into Apple Country through the thousands of acres of orchards.
In addition to the hundreds of food and craft vendors, the festival – Oct. 3- 4 and 11-12 – brings agriculture to life with farm demonstrations, a petting zoo, pie baking contests, cider presses, orchard tours and hay rides.
Not only are there apples fresh off the tree, there are apple jellies, apple sausage, apple pancakes, apple syrup, apple sauce, apple cider, candied apples and apple pies.
Also included is plenty of live entertainment, including music, Native American dancing, puppet shows and tractor square-dancing.
Each day, the festival runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
