Visitors to Gettysburg, Pa., already know that the Farnsworth House Inn offers great food and ghostly entertainment. Its latest addition is likely to add a few more spirits with a Murder Mystery Dinner in their restaurant every Friday night at 7 p.m., from January to March.
“Cheating Death … A Civil Affair” features a period dinner served in the middle of an Irish wake gone wrong. Enjoy the comedic drama of 1863 as period dressed actors deliver a plot of deception, affairs, laughter, mayhem and murder, to make it dining affair participants will never forget.
At the end of the presentation, guests will be asked to solve the mystery and a prize will be awarded to the best sleuth of the evening.
The dinner buffet will consist of lemonade or tea, Pennsylvania Dutch soup of the day, salad with house dressing, baked Lancaster ham, the signature game pie, sauerkraut and finely chopped pork, Pennsylvania Dutch sweet corn, green beans and ham, cheddar scalloped potatoes and dessert. Alcoholic beverages will be available for an additional charge.
The cost is $55 per person. Call (717) 334-8838 for reservations.
The Murder Mystery Dinner will be featured every Friday night this winter until Easter when the dining room will resume its regular business hours.
The Farnsworth House Inn’s Vacant Chair Dinner Theatre will be held every Saturday night in the dining room. This presentation includes a period dressed actor who relays period customs and superstitions, intermittently mixed with songs from the Civil War era. The period dinner buffet is followed by ghost stories in the candlelit cellar. The cost is $34.95 for adults and $16.95 for children 12 and under.
The Farnsworth House Inn is ranked to be one of the most haunted inns in the nation by both the Travel Channel and A&E. Farnsworth House Ghost Tours continue every Friday and Saturday this winter, combining stories in the warm cellar, attic, and a short walk (weather permitting). Ghost Hunts and their re-creation of a Victorian Séance are also available.
