The famous Gettysburg Diorama is now front and center along one of Historic Gettysburg’s most-visited neighborhoods as part of the new Gettysburg History Center.

Formerly housed at Artillery Ridge Campground south of Gettysburg, the Diorama was moved along the popular tourist hub as part of the redevelopment of Steinwehr Avenue.

The Gettysburg Diorama is the largest military scale model in the United States. The fully narrated diorama features more than 20,000 hand-painted soldiers, horses, cannons as well as Gettysburg buildings that became famous during the battle. The hills, roads and fields are accurate to scale and provide an overview of all three days of battle with an exciting sound and light show.

“It’s truly an excellent way to start your visit to Gettysburg,” said Jim Kralik, one of three partners in the Gettysburg History Center. “Those who visit will come away with a better understanding of the battle as well as a true sense of what that moment in time meant to the United States of America and the world we live in today.”

Kralik, along with Gettysburg businessmen Craig Redding and Todd Mickley, opened the museum in March.

The Gettysburg History Center, at 241 Steinwehr Ave., features the diorama, a museum, reception area with artifacts and displays, and souvenir store. For more information, call (717) 334-6408 or visit www.gettysburgdiorama.com.

The Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau, the official tourism promotion agency, markets Gettysburg – Adams County as a premier travel destination, producing a positive economic impact.
