Humphrey Bogart, Judy Garland, John Wayne, Charlton Heston, Jimmy Stewart, and Marlene Dietrich are just several of the movie legends that will be featured on the big screen during this summer’s Classic Movie series at the Majestic Theater.

For 11 Wednesday evenings from June 2 through August 25 (and one Tuesday, June 8), patrons can enjoy some of the greatest movies in cinema history—beginning with “Ben Hur” (1959) and concluding with “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” (1954). The selections span five decades, including “Trails of the Lonesome Dove” (1936) starring Henry Fonda in this first-ever, outdoor movie shot in Technicolor to “1776” (1972), the acclaimed film version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Each showing begins at 7:30 p.m.

“In addition to the marvelous films people really enjoy, there is the very special way we present the films including theater organ music before the show starts along with our free raffle for valuable live show tickets and my entertaining and informative background introductions to the films – all at no extra charge,” said Jeffrey Gabel, Founding Executive Director.

Some of the other great classics will offer a range of emotions from the comedic films, “Flying Deuces” starring Laurel & Hardy and “My Little Chickadee” starring W.C. Fields to the forgotten masterpiece of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Sabotage.” And for the young at heart, see “The Wizard of Oz, the beloved movie musical of all times starring Judy Garland.

“You’ve got to see them on the big screen, like they were meant to be seen,” added Gabel. In addition, don’t miss these Westerns: “The Quiet Man” starring John Wayne, “Destry Rides Again” featuring the biggest, baddest bar room brawl in movie history and “Treasures of the Sierra Madre.”

Classic Movie tickets are priced at $6 each. Patrons receive a 25-percent discount when purchasing a series pass for all 12 movies. Popcorn, refreshments, beer, and wine are available for purchase at each showing. Visit www.gettysburgmajestic.org for more descriptions and information.
