The Irish Heritage Foundation of Gettysburg will present the 11th annual Adams County Irish Festival on Saturday, July 17, 2010. The event will run from10 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. and will feature all things Irish – music, dance, food, merchandise and more.

Each year, the event draws thousands to the shady grounds of Moose Park for Adams County’s only Irish festival. Making their Festival debut is this year’s headliner, the Makem & Spain Brothers, who hail from New England, and bring their robust and hearty voices and instrumentation to a new generation of Irish folk music fans.

Visitors to the festival will also be entertained by regional favorites Irishtown Road, Kilshanny, and Barleyjuice, and will be introduced to new regional favorites, Raining Hearts and Rigadoo. The Coyle School of Irish Dance and the Broesler School of Irish Dance will also be featured.

Family entertainment by Tom Jolin, and storytelling by Kate Danaher, along with pipe, fiddle, whistle, and bodhran workshops, and the West Cork Flying Column re-enactors, round out the day and offer something for everyone. New this year are workshops on Irish Genealogy and Research offered by Mike Healy, from Reston, Va.

Admission to the festival is $10, which includes all entertainment. Children under 12 are admitted free. Back by popular demand this year is the Saving o’ the Green program – carpool to the festival in any vehicle, including SUVs or vans, with up to 12 occupants, and the group is admitted for a flat fee of $40. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

The Festival will be held, rain or shine, at Gettysburg Moose Park (100 Moose Road), located off of US Route 30, approximately 1.5 miles east of the US Route 15 intersection.

Proceeds from the Adams County Irish Festival benefit the Irish Heritage Foundation of Gettysburg, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and the Conway Mill Trust, an Irish-American charity working for community redevelopment in Northern Ireland.

This year’s festival is sponsored in part by GCS, the Wyndham Gettysburg, and the Three Springs Fruit Farm.
