Celebrate the holiday season with the Nebraska Theatre Caravan as it returns to the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, with its delightful stage production of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic ‘A Christmas Carol’ on Saturday Dec. 11, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
The Nebraska Theatre Caravan has been touring this adaptation of ‘A Christmas Carol’ since 1979 with its enormously beautiful set, which recreates 1880s London, and gives the entire production the effect of being a Christmas card, come to life.
“Christmas is the season of magic, miracles and magnanimity, all which are embodied in the story of Scrooge’s transformation from humbug to humanitarian,” said Jeffrey Gabel, Founding Executive Director of the Majestic Theater.
‘A Christmas Carol’ features a spirited ensemble of 28 performers who bring Dickens’s fable of redemption to life with a full array of timeless carols such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Away In a Manager” and “Here We Come A-Wassailing.”
The classic story features a tight-fisted, middleclass merchant Ebenezer Scrooge and all the beloved characters from Dickens’ 1843 novel. The heartwarming tale depicts Scrooge, whose values are focused exclusively on profit and his conflicts with the struggling Cratchit family, whose tragic problems typified the working class during the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England. The touching climax is based on Dickens' belief that the ills of a greedy world can be healed by brotherhood and unselfishness.
Tickets are priced from $44 to $41, but all children are admitted at $10 (taxes and fees included) for reserved seating.
