The Fairfield Inn located eight miles west of Gettysburg, will offer two deliciously entertaining weekends which include music, entertainment, revelry, warm hearths, holiday decorations, wassail bowls and delicious cuisine from the Colonial and Civil War eras.
Centuries-old traditions and cuisine influence the two theme weekends. The four-course feast and entertainment recreates the atmosphere of an authentic Civil War era holiday celebration. The Fairfield Inn was built more than 250 years ago and its holiday traditions span four centuries.
Travel back in time and enjoy our ancestors’ holiday celebrations with an ensemble of the talented choral group of musicians, Cormorant’s Fancy, well-known for playing and singing Irish jigs, traditional and contemporary songs, haunting slow airs and reels and traditional folk music. The group will perform Civil War era and festive 18th century songs as well as everyone’s all-time favorite Christmas carols.
The Feasts of Christmas will highlight the food and music of the 18th and 19th centuries. Enjoy the camaraderie of a Civil War era holiday and travel back in time when friends and family joined soldiers and sang for holiday entertainment. Although heavily influenced by tradition and cuisine, the feasts recreates the atmosphere of a grand holiday celebration casting aside much of the pomp and circumstance to highlight the food, fun and fantasy.
In 1757, when The Fairfield Inn was built, the area was in a territory dispute. The innkeepers, having purchased the land from Charles Carroll, claimed it to be in Maryland under Lord Baltimore’s rule. It wasn’t until 10 years later that the Mason-Dixon Line was drawn, finally putting an end to the territorial dispute between the two states and officially placing the Inn in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It now has the distinction of being one of only five Inns in America that has been in continuous operation since the 1700s.
Enjoy the feasts on Friday, Dec. 10 and 17, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 18, at 6 p.m. Doors open with a traditional toast from the Wassail Bowl to everyone’s health during this holiday season. Cost is $39.95 per person and includes entertainment, music, Christmas carol sing-a-long and the four-course Feast. Dine, sit back and enjoy the show or join in on a Holiday sing-a-long.
