Artists and art lovers from around the country are invited to the 4th annual Gettysburg Festival, featuring a plethora of exciting, free visual arts events, from June 10-19. Attendees will have the opportunity not only to attend live demonstrations by local artists and artisans, but also to meet artists working in a range of subjects and mediums, from historical to contemporary art and from sculpture to photography.

This year marks the second annual History Meets the Arts, known as “the largest gathering of historical artists in the country.” Historical art abounds throughout Gettysburg’s distinctive downtown galleries, showcasing French/Indian, Frontier, Revolutionary, World War I and II, and of course Civil War art. During this event, attendees can enjoy a full lineup of gallery talks, demonstrations, and special events designed to bring historical art to life. Participating galleries this year include:

• Lincoln Into Art, featuring photo artist Dan Mangan and “Lincoln Artist” Wendy Allen, known for her unique method of finger painting in oil
• Lord Nelson’s Gallery, featuring more than thirty artists and artisans at two locations working in mediums from blacksmithing to pottery
• Brafferton Inn, featuring historical artist Keith Rocco, famous for his Civil War battle art
• Gallon Historical Art, featuring Dale Gallon, Gettysburg’s premier historical artist
• Civil War Fine Art, featuring Amy Lindenberger, renowned Civil War artist working in a distinctive colored pencil medium

This year’s History Meets the Arts kicks off with an Edible Art Tour, which gives ticketholders the first chance to view the galleries, meet the artists and enjoy culinary masterpieces at every stop.

• Edible Art Tour, June 16, 5-9 pm, $35
• History Meets the Arts, June 17-18, 10 am-7 pm, offering more than a dozen events, all with free admission

The Festival is pleased to present two impressive exhibitions focused on the theme of the American eagle side-by-side at the Majestic Theater Gallery.  Acclaimed American artist Sheila Isham, whose career has spanned 50 years, exhibits her “Mythic Play Beast” series, combining watercolor and pastel techniques. Praised as doing “for art what Sting and Paul Simon do for music” by Douglas Lytle of The Prague Post, artist Sheila Isham’s exhibit brings together a lifetime of travels across the globe, through numerous disparate cultures, artistic influences and styles.  A simultaneous exhibit of Boehm porcelain sculptures captures the American spirit and ethos.

• Celebrating American Craft and Artistry: Sheila Isham and Boehm Porcelain Exhibition
June 10-19, Monday - Saturday 12-7:30 pm; Sundays 1-5:30 pm, free admission

The annual 10-day Gettysburg Festival offers more than 75 events celebrating American arts, culture and cuisine. Highlight events include Straight No Chaser, a musical group reinventing the style of a capella; Bob Newhart, performing beloved comedy sketches with new material; and The Presidents of Mount Rushmore, a performance by the top four presidential impersonators. More than half of the Festival’s 75 events are free and open to the public.
