One thousand runners are expected for the inaugural Blue-Gray Half-Marathon in Historic Gettysburg, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 30.
“We want to have the North and the South battle on the same roads of Gettysburg almost 150 years after the historic battle,” said race organizer Lowell Ladd.
The race begins near Gateway Gettysburg, a hotel and restaurant campus east of Gettysburg near the intersection of U.S. Routes 15 and 30. From there, runners will run along secondary roads to Shriver’s Corner Road, north of Gettysburg, and back.
“The course takes place on a combination of small back roads and minor state highways,” said Ladd. “There are rolling hills along portions of the course, but is flat enough to give runners a chance at a personal best.”
Runners from the North and the South will also be competing as a team against one another. Each age group winner will receive a point for their side, and the overall winners will receive three points for their side. The team with the most points will win a commemorative prize.
