The Meade School, built in 1896, will be opening its doors to a new set of visitors this summer. Peter and Elizabeth Monahan have recently purchased the school and are transforming it into an 18 suite luxury inn.

This historic property, whose photos are chronicled in the Library of Congress, will be unique in providing upscale accommodations to visitors wanting a boutique hotel experience. Local businessman Peter Monahan will serve as the manager of the newly established Federal Pointe Inn, which will be part of the Choice Hotels International franchise known as the Ascend Collection.

In 1897, the school, named for General George Meade, welcomed its first high school students at the point of Buford and Springs avenues. This grand structure is architecturally significant, blending elements of the federal and gothic features often found in the Northeast. The Monahans are working with architect Gary Shaffer to ensure that the building is restored to its original stature and prominence on the west side of town.

In addition to providing guests with fine overnight accommodations, Federal Pointe Inn will offer event space for business meetings and conferences. For more information, contact Peter Monahan at [email protected].
