The Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to welcome Gov. Ed Rendell, the Pennsylvania Tourism Office and the Office of Community Affairs to Gettysburg for a three-day statewide tourism summit in May.

“Destination Pennsylvania: The Governor’s Conference on Tourism” will focus on preserving the distinctive character of communities in the state, and building economic development through cultural and place-based tourism.

“We look forward to hosting our tourism colleagues from Pennsylvania and develop the future of tourism in the state,” said Norris Flowers, President of the Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau, and member of the host committee. “We’re excited to have these tourism representatives experience Gettysburg.”

The conference – to be held May 4-6 at the Wyndham Gettysburg hotel in Gateway Gettysburg, at Route 15 and Route 30 east of Gettysburg – will bring together key public and private stakeholders, industry experts and the media, representing diverse areas of the state.

According to the Michael Chapaloney of the Department of Community and Economic Development, Gettysburg was picked because it is “really a great model for what can be done in other communities,” he said, referring to the new Visitor Center, Gateway Gettysburg and other attractions in Gettysburg.

Activities scheduled over the three days will be held at several Gettysburg locations, including the Wyndham Gettysburg hotel, the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center, and the Majestic Theater.

“We feel very privileged and honored to host the governor’s tourism summit, the first ever,” said Robert Monahan Jr., owner of the Wyndham Gettysburg and chair of the host committee.
