Two Gettysburg Quality Inns are finalists for Quality Inn of the Year 2008

The Quality Inn at General Lee�s Headquarters and the Quality Inn � Gettysburg Motor Lodge are two of only six finalists nationwide for Quality Inn of the Year honors. Choice Hotels International will announce the winner at its annual conference this May in Las Vegas.

The nominations for Quality Inn of the Year is based on guest satisfaction surveys and property inspections that measure cleanliness, standards, security and property maintenance.

In October, both hotels earned Platinum status, a honor representing only 2 percent of Quality Inn�s more than 800 hotels nationwide. In March, owners of both hotels were informed they were two of six finalists for the top award for 2008.

�It�s quite an honor,� said Paul Witt, owner of the Quality Inn � Gettysburg Motor Lodge on Steinwehr Avenue in Gettysburg. �You try to do the best you can, one day at a time.�

Witt added that having both Gettysburg properties in the top six is quite an achievement considering both hotels are more than 50 years old. Many Quality Inns are less than 20 years old, he said.

�Obviously, an older property is harder to manage than a newer hotel,� said Witt.

Peter Monahan, owner of the Quality Inn at General Lee�s Headquarters on Buford Avenue in Gettysburg, worked for Paul Witt when Monahan was in high school.

�Through that summer job, my first hospitality experience grew into a career in the lodging industry,� Monahan said.

Quality Inn at General Lee�s Headquarters won Inn of the Year in 1981. The hotel was also a finalist for the award in 2007.

�I feel honored to be one of two Quality Inns in Gettysburg that perform as the best in the Choice Hotels system,� Monahan added.
